Introduction:
DECEIT v. DECEIT, on Kindle now, is a true story of intimate betrayal and a battle for justice. But, it is not just another story like so many others of marital infidelity and a fight for custody of two very young and impressionable children who are in jeopardy. There is much more. Truth and consequences unveil themselves as we are taken on a journey of our hearts, minds, and souls; we see human nature in admirable and despicable forms. We witness controversial actions taken by the protagonist in this story to wiretap the salacious conversations of the antagonists and the revelation of these sordid details as the foundation of his fight to obtain custody. Believing himself to be the better parent, this father struggles against all odds, accentuating his determination in a time in our history when custody rulings heavily favored mothers. And, if one were to think that is all there is to this story, they’d be wrong; as the most dominating and persuasive personality in this tale, the one driving the action is a manipulative, perverted, predatory gynecologist whose sole objective is to leverage his power with selected women who visit this doctor for gynecological purposes. With his wife gone astray and under the influence of this controlling doctor, the father’s fear of the children also coming under the influence of this evil doctor is the overriding motivation to protect them and to seek justice.
The Story:
Taking place in the late 1970s, the story revolves around a fierce battle between the deceitful, mindless wife and mother of two and her even more deceitful paramour and predatory gynecologist – the wife’s doctor. These are two virtue-less people, lacking consciences, whose immoral behavior is met by an equal force of proactive action to counteract their misconduct (the father’s meritorious version of “deceit”). Thus, this is a battle between evil and good – a struggle between the dishonorable and the honorable and between immorality and morality. A display of offensive, destructive “deceit” is counteracted by an opposite form of deceit that is defensive and constructive. Thus, two opposed versions of “deceit” are at battle. The two antagonists’ unprincipled compulsion for sex subordinates and trumps profession and family to their selfish objectives. Arrogance and sexual preoccupation are on parade! The story takes a winding route from sex in the doctor’s office to sex in the city park, sex before the roaring fireplace, in his home, in her home (when the spouses of both are absent), and elsewhere. Besides the antagonists and protagonist, the story involves a brilliant defense attorney, a crafty PI, child psychiatrists pitted against one another, a bumbling police officer, an incorruptible Family Court Judge, Supreme Court rulings, courtroom drama, a brethren doctor-psychiatrist friendly to the amoral gynecologist, testifying that this doctor is not a pervert, an unconvinced jury, judge and courtroom, Medical Board hearings and testimony to the contrary. You will read captured and permanently recorded telephone conversations with scintillating details, permitted by court law at the time, but never again.
The uniqueness of this Story:
This story could only have happened at this moment in history for several reasons, making this the unique divorce and battle for custody. For a very short time, the specific circumstances of a landline telephone wiretap were judged to be legal when it occurred. Then, shortly after that, wiretapping of any form in this country became illegal. And, with the advent of cellphone technology in the mid-1980s, right after these events took place, wiretapping became impractical since cell phones can’t be wiretapped. This story could only have happened during that short window of opportunity in history. The rulings and legalities of this case were monumental in the outcome of ultimate litigations and the story’s ending. Still, however, some of the events and happenings in this story remain controversial even to this day, raising lingering questions about the rights of privacy and these legalities.
Impact on Readers:
DECEIT v. DECEIT is more than a recitation of personal heartbreak; it provides a glimpse into the emotional and legal complexities of infidelity, all while reminding the reader of the fragile nature of relationships and the impact of such events. The tale resonates with readers due to its raw emotional honesty and serves as a sobering reminder of the consequences of betrayal.
Conclusion:
DECEIT v. DECEIT is not just a powerful narrative of personal loss, tragedy, and resilience but also a stark glance into the legal intricacies surrounding infidelity and custody. Vernon Baumrind’s candid storytelling, backed by indisputable wiretapped evidence, challenges readers to think critically about trust, loyalty, respect, honor, and the lengths one will go to protect what matters most in life.
