This April 7th and 8th, 1,000 hand-picked South Asian singles — from influencers to everyday people — will descend on the Windy City for the Mohan Matchmaking Convention. These 1,000 singles were hand-picked from a pool of 9,500 applicants by Anip Patel, the mastermind behind this unique event.

Anip Patel is the CEO of CaPatel Investments, an investment firm founded in 2022 with the express purpose of investing in start-ups founded by South Asian entrepreneurs. The Mohan Matchmaking Convention is just one such venture that Patel has found worthy of investment. Patel and is on a mission to bring together the most eligible and diverse group of singles in one luxury setting for networking and matchmaking opportunities.

A safe space

“Our goal is to provide a safe and inclusive space for South Asian singles,” explains Patel. “This includes leaving space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community within the event.” It’s his hope that the 1,000 hand-picked singles will be able to make meaningful connections and perhaps find their perfect match.

The Mohan Matchmaking Convention is the largest South Asian dating convention in the US, and Patel’s team is working hard to make the upcoming convention the most memorable and life-changing experience for all involved.

Samuh Lagan

When setting out to put together the Mohan Matchmaking event, Patel and his team’s mission was two-fold. “Firstly, we aim to support the traditional practice of Samuh Lagan in India by donating 100% of the event’s proceeds to help arrange mass marriages for less fortunate couples, along with providing gifts to support their new lives together,” explains Patel. They also hope this event and their fundraising efforts will bring global awareness to the practice of Samuh Lagan, leading to further initiatives for those who cannot afford to get married.

The Mohan Matchmaking event’s inclusion of LGBTQIA+ couples is particularly noteworthy. By including the group in their overall mission, Patel is hopeful the mission of inclusivity will spread. “We believe in creating an inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to celebrate love and commitment, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity,” he says.

The main event

The Mohan Matchmaking Event kicks off with a “Getting to Know You” dinner and networking event on Friday, April 7th. There’s an exciting lineup of entertainers and games to keep everyone engaged and excited about what the rest of the weekend holds.

On Saturday, April 8th, there will be a Dating Convention that includes speed dating, seminars, and ice-breaker events, as well as breakout rooms available that cater to specific attendee preferences. That evening, a Cocktail Reception will be held with dinner and farewell remarks.

“It’s the perfect time to say goodbye to everyone that you’ve met and exchange memories about the amazing experience from the past few days,” says Patel.

Patel has invested over $1 million into the Mohan Matchmaking event to ensure a luxury experience for all chosen attendees. Various South Asian and Bollywood influencers are planning on attending the event.

Patel is interested in prioritizing the role of diversity in the entrepreneurial space, and his investment in the Mohan Matchmaking convention shows his dedication to that mission. Through this unique event, South Asians from all walks of life have an opportunity to make lasting connections, and perhaps even find love.
