Jeffrey Dahmer costumes get blacklisted on eBay due to company policies

Monsters: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story continues to make waves online, giving people an idea of what to dress up as for Halloween.

Dahmer’s popularity has dominated the internet, with people planning to dress up as the infamous serial killer for costume parties.

However, not everyone is optimistic about the Jeffrey Dahmer series.

A well-known online retailer has decided to stop selling Dahmer suits.

eBay on the ban

An eBay spokesperson emailed CNN to confirm the removal of the costume

The email also stated that the site would remove any references or pieces that add up to make Jeffrey Dahmer’s costumes.

The platform cites its “Violent and Violent Crimes Policy” as the reason for the costume removal.

eBay’s policy states:

“Listings that promote or glorify violence or violence acts, or are associated with individuals who are notorious for committing violent acts, are not allowed.”

While it surprises some, eBay’s decision to ban Jeffrey Dahmer’s costumes is not new.

The Dahmer series

The Dahmer series on Netflix got a lot of people talking.

Most reviewers criticized the portrayal of serial killers.

CNN’s Sara Stewart suggested that despite the show’s focus on victims, Dhamer ended up focusing on the insensitive.

She says that the victims’ families said the showrunners did not consult with them before launching the series.

Evan Peters plays Jeffrey Dahmer in the series, which continues to gain popularity.

The Jeffrey Dahmer show drew over 196 million hours of weekly viewership one week after its release.

The costumes

However, a Saturday afternoon search on eBay showed that “Jeffrey Dahmer costumes” continued to show some results.

Clear glasses like what Evan Peters wears on Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story are still on the list.

Other online retailers like Etsy still sell kits that make a Jeffrey Dahmer costume once assembled.

Items listed on Etsy include:

  • Blonde wigs
  • Clear glasses
  • Orange jumpsuits

Gymnast Simone Biles didn’t contain her frustration with the costume.

She took her frustration out on Twitter, writing:

“Put the jeffrey dahmer [sic] costumes back in the closet.”
