It is easy for people to jump to the conclusion that an individual’s success must have been the result of their innate talent. After all, countless powerhouses in the music and entertainment scene, for example, managed to shine because they were inherently talented. As much as this could be true for others, some have been able to establish their names in their industry because they worked hard to translate their visions into reality. These go-getters, including the up-and-coming heavyweight boxer Dave “Irregular” Thorpe, are the paragons of grit and perseverance, serving as role models for other aspirants.
Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Dave Thorpe earned the name “Irregular” after climbing the ranks of Olympic-style boxing in a very short amount of time. He has succeeded in knocking down foes with exemplary records throughout his career, such as his last opponent, De’twane Lanier who was renowned for being undefeated. Vanquishing him by knockdown, the emerging household name not only captured the attention of the industry but also proved that he is a force to be reckoned with.
Highly driven, Dave “Irregular” Thorpe pours time and effort into improving as a boxer, and this all-out approach toward making a name in the field is no surprise because he has set his eyes on rising through the boxing ranks ever since he was young. “Boxing has always been a dream of mine. I get a thrill seeing someone use their God-given talents to outsmart and outmaneuver their opponents in order to defeat them. It’s amazing to me,” he shares.
Dave “Irregular” Thorpe has consistently demonstrated that he is willing to work harder than the competition to secure a spot on the top, training more than eight to ten hours every day. The extent to which he pushes himself to evolve into the best athlete he could be is fueled by his deep-seated passion for the sport, as well as the burning desire to take center stage. “To me, this is no different than a job. Most people work eight hours a day. There is no difference. When you really want something bad enough, you work hard for it,” adds the beacon of grit.
Armed with a clear vision of the future he wants to materialize into reality, Dave “Irregular” Thorpe plans to continue exerting every effort necessary to trump his opponents. In the coming years, he aims to become a professional boxer and eventually be a part of the World Boxing Association (WBA), winning a championship belt in the heavyweight or light heavyweight division. Additionally, he hopes to grace the Olympics prior to joining the WBA.
As Dave “Irregular” Thorpe carves a path toward the summit, he also intends to stand as a source of inspiration for budding power players, especially for other athletes who may feel disheartened because of the numerous challenges that are currently hindering them from making waves. Through his story, he wants to emphasize the importance of dedication and perseverance in translating one’s vision into reality.
