NASCAR takes action, bans ‘hail melon’ in other races

NASCAR: While there are various methods to win in sports competition, some of them are risky or even immoral.

Typically, regulations are developed as a sport evolves.

After witnessing a professional driver try a stunt recently, NASCAR decided to add a new regulation to the rules.

The news

Professional racer Ross Chastain performed a reckless move in Martinsville last year, prompting authorities to take the necessary sanctions.

His use of the wall to qualify for the championship race has been outlawed, according to NASCAR, which announced this on Tuesday.

Chastain put his foot firmly on the gas pedal and drove to the wall to allow enough vehicles to pass on the last lap of the race.

He was granted admittance for the season finale, and as a result, he joined the other three drivers in the championship race.

The most recent NASCAR rule reads:

“Any violation deemed to compromise the safety of an event or otherwise pose a dangerous risk to the safety of competitors, officials, spectators, or others are treated with the highest degree of seriousness.”

“Safety violations will be handed on a case-by-case basis.”

What happened

During the 2022 preliminary round, Chastain made a smart move.

He was aware that Denny Hamlin held the last playoff slot and had more points than he did.

Conventional passes were challenging due to the gap with the other cars.

Chastain shifted up as a result, kept the gas pedal depressed, and drove his vehicle into a wall.

His lap was nearly two seconds quicker than the winner, Christopher Bell, as a result of the good move.

Ross Chastain moved up from tenth to fifth as a result, passing Hemlin on the final lap to gain valuable ranking.

Chastain recalled performing the same maneuver on a NASCAR video game when he was younger after the race.

He carefully tested it to see if it would succeed.

Reception

The other racers enjoyed using the game’s “Hail Melon” maneuver.

Opponent Joey Logano remarked that everyone indulged in it when they were younger.

“We all did it in the video game. That’s how you made speed in the video game, that’s what you did,” he said.

“Something we all thought about at one point – at least, I thought about it a lot – but never really had the need to do it. Also kind of thought how many races I could have won here by doing that.”

“As spectacular as it was, as much as it worked, the problem is now the box is open right? That’s not good,” Logano continued.

“It was awesome, it was cool. It happened for the first time. There’s no rule against it. There needs to be a rule against this one because I don’t know if you want the whole field riding the wall coming to the checkered flag.”

Kyle Larson, meanwhile, described the situation as embarrassing and added, “It’s just a bad look.”

“I’m embarrassed that I did it at Darlington. Maybe if I didn’t do it last year, people wouldn’t think to do that, so I’m embarrassed myself and glad that I didn’t win that way.”

Aftermath

Because Ross Chastain’s strategy was so effective, NASCAR changed the rule as a result.

When Chastain mounted the wall in Martinsville, he established the record for the quickest Cup Series lap.

It caused NASCAR to consider how they might stop other drivers from using the tactic frequently.

The organization came to the conclusion that it ought to be banned given how successfully it was executed.

If other drivers make the same move, they will be given a time penalty.

It wasn’t a brand-new regulation, according to Elton Sawyer, vice president of competition for NASCAR.

“I think we all remember the last-lap move at Martinsville in the fall,” he said.

“Brought a great deal of excitement, a great deal of exposure to our sport. But it also came with some scrutiny.”

Luka Doncic hits triple-double in Mavericks comeback win

Luka Doncic: The point guard for the Dallas Mavericks topped himself on Tuesday night to lead his team to a comeback win against the New York Knicks.

The game

Luka Doncic’s performance was essential to the Mavericks’ campaign this season.

He turned around a nine-point deficit in the final 26.8 seconds of regulation time, severely cutting the New York Knicks’ lead.

Doncic stepped up toward the end of the game, tying the score before completing their win.

The Mavericks’ point guard, like any other player, upped his tempo when the side needed him the most.

The tie

Luka Doncic stood for the free throw with 4.2 seconds remaining.

The Mavericks and Knicks were separated by three points.

Doncic purposely missed his second shot in the hopes that a second Maverick would get the rebound.

The ball eventually ended up in Doncic’s hands after it bounced off the ring and slipped off the Knicks.

He quickly moved for a close-range jump shot.

When the shot went in, he didn’t realize the cheers were coming from the Mavericks fans until he stood up after falling.

While the rest of the team seemed eager to celebrate and Luka Doncic was visibly ecstatic, everyone else decided to stay on defense as the clock ran.

Finishing the game

As the game approached overtime, the Dallas Mavericks maintained their lead.

The Knicks were only able to make two free throws in the opening four minutes as the Mavericks forced overtime.

The Mavericks held off the Knicks with a five-point victory to complete the upset.

Luka Doncic scored seven of the Mavericks’ eleven points in overtime, giving him 60 points overall.

“I’m tired as hell,” said Doncic after the win. “I need a recovery beer.”

Records broken

Luka Doncic had a tremendous game against the Knicks and put up some impressive stats.

The point guard not only scored a career-high 60 points, but added 21 rebounds and 10 assists.

Doncic’s efforts have led to him becoming the youngest player in NBA history to ever register a triple-double of 60 points.

The Mavericks player set a new benchmark and a team scoring record.

Doncic’s performance

The remarkable 21-year career of Dirk Nowitzki was previously overseen by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

He was watching the Knicks game, where the next generation carried on Nowitzki’s legacy.

“We are watching greatness @luka7doncic,” he tweeted. “I’ve never seen anything like that ever.”

Luka Doncic became the second player in NBA history to record a triple-double of 60 points.

James Harden, who achieved a comparable feat with the Houston Rockets in 2018, established the record for the first 60-point, 10-rebound, 11-assist game.

In the past, only Wilt Chamberlain (who did it twice) and Elgin Baylor with a 20-board performance, along with six other players, were able to accomplish the rare 50-point triple-double.

But the icing on the cake goes beyond Doncic’s individual achievements.

NBA teams had a record of 0-13,884 during the previous 20 seasons when behind by more than nine points with 35 seconds or less left on the clock.

Reaction

The Mavericks’ previous record of 53 points (established by Dirk Nowitzki in 2004)  was surpassed by Luka Doncic’s 60-point triple-double, which also set a new milestone for the team.

NBA players from the present and the past complimented the point guard on Twitter.

“It’ll be another statue in Dallas,” said Kevin Garnett. “Luka is like that!”

Chris Wood wrote, “@luka7doncic Im sending u a GOAT to yo farm my boy..60..great team W #MFFL.”

Theo Pinson lauded Doncic as one of the NBA’s top players this season in a tweet, writing:

“I don’t want to hear not 1 time that is AT LEAST top 3 in the MVP race all year!!!”

Paul Pierce offered his perspective by saying: “Luke is the best offensive player in the league I said offensive think about it.”

FIFA+ Collect, FIFA and Algorand’s NFT platform collaboration leading to the 2022 World Cup

Recently, football’s global governing body, FIFA, announced that it will launch an NFT platform with football-themed digital collectibles.

The announcement came in time as the 2022 World Cup approaches.

FIFA+ Collect

The FIFA NFT platform will be called FIFA+ Collect and will be launched at the end of this month.

The platform offers affordable, accessible and inclusive NFTs that showcase some of the best moments of this beautiful sport.

Once the World Cup takes place in Qatar at the end of November, moments from the world football tournament will likely be transformed into digital collectibles.

FIFA Commercial Director Romy Gai released a statement stating:

“Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an accessible opportunity for fans around the world to engage with their favorite players, moments, and more on new platforms.”

Blockchain

FIFA+ Collect runs on the Algorand blockchain, a proof-of-stake alternative to Ethereum and Solana.

The Algorand blockchain was developed by MIT professor Silvio Micali.

In May, the Algorand blockchain made FIFA its lead partner in a timely World Cup deal.

The deal covers the Women’s World Cup 2023 and takes it a long way on the FIFA+ Collect platform with momentum.

Blockchain has taken a narrow and more defined approach to partnership agreements, rather than casting a wide net in the hope of reaching an agreement.

Outside of FIFA, sports facilities in the blockchain ecosystem are largely inactive, with limited exposure to transactions involving less physical sports like chess and drone racing.

Algorand

The blockchain platform made headlines earlier this year after acquiring Napster, a digital music sharing service.

It also partnered with LimeWire, one of the first peer-to-peer music sharing services, to launch a music-centric NFT market with songs from Universal Music Group-affiliated artists.

Despite the size of their deal, Algorand will not be alone in Doha.

In early March, Crypto.com announced that it would be the exclusive sponsor of the World Cup.

However, the company could limit its sports partnership program.

Last week, the company reportedly dropped a $495 million sponsorship deal with UEFA, the European Champions League.

More information

Details of the FIFA + Collect collections will be announced as soon as they are released. NFT-like teasers will also be released during the World Cup.

In addition, the NFT platform will also be streamed on FIFA+, the organization’s platform for football news, live matches and original content.

Angel City FC and Tigres Femenil Sign a Historic Two-Year Partnership to Improve Women’s Soccer

The latest addition to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), Angel City Football Club, recently announced a unique partnership to promote the development of women’s soccer across the United States and Mexico.

With three wins out of four games, the newest soccer club in the women’s league has been making history, but they took it one step further with a two-year partnership with Tigres Femenil of Mexico’s Liga MX. Their partnership will be the first of its kind between the two clubs in the most prominent women’s soccer leagues.

“We are thrilled to enter into this two-year partnership with Tigres and host the team in Los Angeles for our first-ever international friendly match,” said Angel City President and co-founder Julie Uhrman. “Angel City has always set our sights toward becoming part of the international soccer community to collaborate with and shine a light on the power of women’s soccer and women’s sports overall. This partnership with Tigres is an important milestone in our club’s history, and we are excited to engage with our fans and community, as well as in Mexico and beyond.”

The two club’s partnerships will have two friendly matches, with the first on August ten at the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles. The second game will be played in Monterrey, Mexico, at the Estadio Universitario in 2023.

Apart from the friendly games, the clubs will also engage ideas on the best practices in the sport and business and social responsibility issues. The partnership will also focus on community-impact events featuring fans, civic organizations, and soccer clubs in the two cities.

“For us, it is an honor to make this alliance with Angel City FC, a young franchise with a huge push with which we have found similar objectives in the search to continue promoting women’s football to another level,” said Mauricio Culebro, President of Tigres. “We want to turn Tigres into one of the most renowned teams at an international level, and this type of alliance allows us to get closer to that goal.”

Angel City FC is the latest team to debut in 2022 as part of the NWSL expansion team, while Tigres Femenil was established in 2017, one of the pioneering teams in Mexico to kick off their women’s league.
