Jenna Ortega originally slated for You S4

Jenna OrtegaThis week marks the official premiere of the fourth season of Netflix’s You, which follows Joe Goldberg as he (again) assumes a new identity in London.

Since Joe (now Professor Jonathan Moore) left America to follow Tati Gabrielle’s Marienne, he has become involved in a “whodunit.”

Fans had been looking forward to Ellie Alves, a character who had appeared in prior seasons.

However, Penn Badgley will be the only former season character to return (because he is the main character).

Jenna Ortega was unable to return because of Wednesday’s filming, but Ellie’s return seemed certain.

The news

The Wednesday actress has recently established a name for herself in several films, including the viral Netflix series.

Jenna Ortega wants to return to Joe Goldberg’s story, according to Sera Gamble, the showrunner of You, who spoke with IndieWire for an interview.

“We wanted to bring Ellie back and we heard, ‘Oh, Jenna is doing some show,'” revealed Gamble.

“It’s been just such a pleasure to see Jenna this year. We have ideas for Ellie if her schedule allows her to visit us again.”

Ellie

Jenna Ortega played Delilah Alves’ younger sister in You season two.

Delilah Alves was portrayed by Carmela Zumbado.

In 2018, Jenna Ortega was added to the cast.

She portrayed Ellie Alves, a would-be director from Los Angeles.

Ellie comes to know Joe better after his overzealousness secretly spares her from a sexual attack by Chris D’Elia Henderson, a well-known celebrity for whom she is doing an internship.

Joe advises the sister to leave Los Angeles and embark on a new life, informs her that Delilah won’t be coming back once she departs, and provides her money.

Joe admits that he continues to send Ellie money despite her absence throughout the third season.

One of the few characters to survive their bond is Ellie, who is portrayed by Ortega.

A desire to return

In a Teen Vogue interview from the year 2019, Jenna Ortega expressed her desire to reprise the role of Ellie.

“It would be amazing to see Ellie come back and take control of her life,” said the Wednesday star.

“I want her to be an even bigger badass. I don’t want her to come back and be extremely vulnerable and sad.”

“We have to remember that even though people still find Joe somewhat charming, he’s evil, he does terrible things, and he gets away with them because of his gender and race and position in society,” Ortega continued.

“[Ellie] has so much potential and so much talent that she shouldn’t waste because of him.”

It’s unclear how Jenna Ortega would fit into the present plot given that Joe and his student Nadia, played by aspiring actress Amy-Leigh Hickman, have become close.

His connection with Ellie in his role as the elder sibling is uncannily similar to that of their teacher and pupil.

“To me, his relationship with Nadia is really telling,” said Sera Gamble. “He has such a soft spot that is truly altruistic.”

“He has really good boundaries with you people… except when he occasionally kills their abusive stepparents, but otherwise he’s a great mentor.”

What has Jenna Ortega been up to?

Since her involvement in You’s second season, Jenna Ortega has been working on a range of other projects.

She debuted in the 2020 Netflix sequel The Babysitter: Killer Queen before making appearances in other horror movies.

In 2022, she had three horror movie appearances, garnering the moniker “scream queen.”

She also had appearances in Studio 666, which featured the rock band Foo Fighters, and X, the fifth Scream movie released last year.

Her best moment came on Wednesday on Netflix, without a question.

A goth icon

Jenna Ortega’s fame increased following Wednesday’s Netflix debut in the latter half of last year.

A young lady with psychic abilities who engages in several escapades at Nevermore Academy serves as the series’ goth symbol.

Between September 2021 and March 2022, there was filming, keeping Ortega away from You.

Wednesday, a well-liked TV show that often topped the ratings, was renewed for a second season.

Given that filming on the program hasn’t started yet, Jenna Ortega could be able to return for a future You appearance.
